From yesterday a large number of Steam users reported that they were seeing a '[GAME] is not optimized for your Mac' alert. If you've seeing the same thing, you are likely running a game that is a 32-bit app on macOS 10.13.4.
35 Steam Games from Aspyr Are Affected
MacOS High Sierra comes with a number of new features, and, admittedly, a number of flaws too. Since the first days of the official, stable release, I have experienced so many flaws and glitches that I think this is an unfinished OS. There are several options that will allow you to keep playing your 32-bit Mac apps. The good news is we have Steam Play, which means that when you purchased your game on Steam you get a copy of this game on each OS that game supports. You will still be able to play these games on macOS 10.14 Mojave and earlier, Windows and in many cases Linux. You can upgrade to macOS High Sierra from OS X Mountain Lion or later on any of the following Mac models. Your Mac also needs at least 2GB of memory and 14.3GB of available storage space. MacBook introduced in late 2009 or later. MacBook Air introduced in late 2010 or later. MacBook Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later. For macOS Sierra, High Sierra, Mojave, and Catalina Unfortunately, the workaround to repair disk permissions and ACLs no longer works in macOS Sierra and above. According to Apple, manual disk permission repair isn’t necessary anymore. MacOS Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, and Sierra (and Mac OS X El Capitan) repair file permissions. When High Sierra arrived, there were concerns about issues with Valve's Source engine and the Steam client. These were said to be affecting Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, and Counter-Strike: Global.
Not all game developers have updated thier popular 32-bit apps to 64-bit to ensure future playability with macOS. Aspyr, an American video game developer and publisher, says that so far its remedy for this upadte is currently unknown. We understood the 32-bit to 64-bit transition does present unique development challenges, and it's not yet known if every Aspyr game will be upgraded. This update affects the following Steam games from Aspyr Media:
- BioShock Infinite
- Borderlands 2
- Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!
- Call of Duty 2
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Call of Duty: Black Ops

Everything You Want To Know About This Alert
By cleaning up 32-bit Apps/Gamings from macOS, Apple hopes that this alert will help gamers and game developers to raise a concern about the modern design of Mac apps/games. According to Apple: 'To ensure that the apps you purchase are as advanced as the Mac you run them on, all future Mac software will eventually be required to be 64-bit.'
- Q: Why am I seeing this '[GAME] is not optimized for your Mac' alert? A: Starting with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4, apps that have not been updated to use 64-bit processes produce a one-time alert when opened. This gives users advance notice that they are running 32-bit software/game, which will not be compatible with macOS in the future.
- Q: Can I keep playing my 32-bit games on my Mac? A: Yes, you may continue to play 32-bit games with your Mac today as this is just a reminder alert. This has no adverse effect on your data or your computer.
- Q: How do I check if my Steam game is 32-bit or 64-bit? A: On Apple menu > Choose About This Mac > Click the System Report button > Software > Applications. When you select an individual game, you will see a field titled '64-bit (Intel)'.

Reinstall from macOS Recovery
High Sierra Os Mac
macOS Recovery makes it easy to reinstall the Mac operating system, even if you need to erase your startup disk first. All you need is a connection to the Internet. If a wireless network is available, you can choose it from the Wi-Fi menu , which is also available in macOS Recovery.
1. Start up from macOS Recovery
To start up from macOS Recovery, turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold one of the following sets of keys on your keyboard. Release the keys when you see an Apple logo, spinning globe or other startup screen. Onyx 3 4 1 – maintenance and optimization toolbox.

Shift-Option-⌘-R
Reinstall the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version that's still available.
You may be prompted to enter a password, such as a firmware password or the password of a user who is an administrator of this Mac. Enter the requested password to continue.
When you see the utilities window, that means you have started up from macOS Recovery.
2. Decide whether to erase (format) your disk
You probably don't need to erase your disk, unless you're selling, trading in or giving away your Mac, or you have an issue that requires you to erase it. If you need to erase it before installing macOS, select Disk Utility from the Utilities window, then click Continue. Find out more about when and how to erase your disk.
3. Install macOS
When you're ready to reinstall macOS, choose Reinstall macOS from the Utilities window. Then click Continue and follow the on-screen instructions. You will be asked to choose a disk on which to install.
- If the installer asks to unlock your disk, enter the password you use to log in to your Mac.
- If the installer can't see your disk or notifies you that it can't install macOS on your computer or volume, you may need to erase your disk first.
- If the installer is for a different version of macOS than expected, find out about macOS Recovery exceptions.
- If the installer offers you the choice between installing on Macintosh HD or Macintosh HD – Data, choose Macintosh HD.
Please allow the installation to finish without putting your Mac to sleep or closing its lid. During the installation process, your Mac may restart and display a progress bar on the screen several times, and the screen may be blank for minutes at a time.
If your Mac restarts to a setup assistant, but you're selling, trading in or giving away your Mac, press Command-Q to quit the assistant without completing the setup process. Then click Shut Down. When the new owner starts up the Mac, they can use their own information to complete the setup process.
macOS Recovery exceptions
The version of macOS offered by macOS Recovery may vary in some cases:
- If macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later has never been installed on this Mac, Option-Command-R installs the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version that's still available. And Shift-Option-Command-R isn't available.
- If you erased your entire disk instead of just the startup volume on that disk, macOS Recovery may only offer the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version that's still available. You can upgrade to a later version afterwards.
- If your Mac has the Apple T2 Security Chip and you've never installed a macOS update, Option-Command-R installs the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac.
- If you've just had your Mac logic board replaced during a repair, macOS Recovery may only offer the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.
